No Stimulus Money for “NO” Votes?
Fellow blogger BarackOblogger has an interesting idea for a petition:
Background (Preamble):
We the people of the United States who support Barack Obama and the economic stimulus package hereby challenge each and every Republican congressman and congresswoman who voted against the stimulus package to return any and all federal monies given to their constituents because of the stimulus package….

And if you don’t have the guts to do this and are just playing politics, then we demand that you cease and desist from standing in the way of progress, and let our President do what is necessary to get this country back on track!

I have mixed feelings about this petition. It definitely sends a direct message to members of the Great Obstructionist Party about standing in the way of progress and recovery for the United States of America.
If it will help voters realize that their Republican representatives are on the wrong side of common sense, then I’m in favor of this.
On the other hand, it still hurts the American people that need the help.
I don’t know the answer, but I hope that President Barack Obama will recognize that there’s very few Republicans that are willing to demonstrate actual bi-partisanship, so the Democrats might as well just write the legislation they want, instead of trying to dilute their best efforts.

I’m sure Obama is legitimately doing what is required of him based on the current situation. If that’s the case, one has to wonder whether he’ll be forced to do the exact same thing two years from now and send more troops to Iraq following a withdrawal. For more check out http://www.TalkObama.info

To all those Democrats who supported this bill, without reading the 1000+ pages: I challenge you to send a copy of the stimulus package, in its entirty, to every tax paying American Citizen in the United States. I challenge you to justify how each and every dollar spent will stimulate the economy and not just put money in the hands of interest groups. I challenge each and every democrat who voted for this plan, and each and every person who voted for Hope and Change, to engage in civil and logical thought before announcing this bill as the greatest hope and greatest benefit to the future of this country.
4 Billion dollars to ACORN does what to stimulate the economy?
A provision to add fees and penalties to doctors who perform procedures the Government finds to be non cost effective, does what to stimulate the economy?
500 Million dollars to re sod the white house lawn does what to stimulate the economy?
An extra 13 dollars a week in a person’s paycheck does what to stimulate the economy? This comes out to roughly 700 dollars a year… a sum Michelle and Barak berated when George W Bush sent out checks in that rough sum a year ago.
500 million dollars to the endowment for the arts does what to stimulate the economy?
Out of the almost 800 Billion dollars provisioned in this bill… only 75billion (1/10th of the total) goes towards infrastructure and creation of jobs… and these jobs are temporary, construction jobs… with no provision to hire those who can prove they have a legal right to work in the United States (That provision was removed by the Democrats).
Democrats have a controlling vote in both house and senate.. and still you complain and whine because no republicans vote for your massive spending bill? You have a near fillibuster free majority in the senate, and still you whine about Republicans not supporting the bill… saying they are standing in the way of the president? Give me a break. 90% of those people supporting this stimulus package have no idea what is in it… and only a portion of it has ever made itself into the public view.
Last i checked this country was a Democratic Republic… now for those people who dont know what that is (Pay attention Democrats in the House and Senate)… A Democratic Republic is where our elected officials stand up for the voice of those who voted them in. A Democratic Republic is a form of government where an Elected Official must not only vote on his/her own thoughts and beliefs but also as the will of his/her constituants. To put it in plain english… for the better and overall good of the country… not for the overall good of political gain. You Democrats moan that Republicans are voting for political gain by voting against this bill. So I ask you this: If voting against this bill will garner political support (or gain) for the Republicans… does that mean voting for it will cause political loss for the Democrats? And, since logic dictates it must, does that mean the Stimulus bill will be seen by the american people as a failure? Think about it logically.

I’m sure most of the republicans that thought the stimulus bill was a bad idea would be happy to give the money back, provided that none of their constituents or constituents’ children or grandchildren will be footing the bill anyway. Unfortunately that is not the case.
