Obama on Education
I’m excited to join the writing team here at Barack Obama NOW! The main reason I am supporting Obama is his commitment to education.
As a current law student, I have experienced firsthand the rising cost off college, especially the latest hike in interest rates on federal loans. Under President Bush funding for Pell Grants and Federal Loans has decreased and it is critical for our country’s future to make keep college afordable for everyone so that we can remain competive in a global workforce.
The FIRST bill Barack Obama introduced as a United States Senator was the HOPE (Higher Education Opportunity Through Pell Grant Expansion) Act. Unfortunately, the Republican Congress did not allow this bill to be passed, but hopefully now that the Democrats are taking control of Congress next month, the bill may have new life.
Obama understands the education equals opportunity and that EVERYONE deserves to have an opportunity. He knows this because he’s experienced it!
